“We are not good keepers of the earth,“ says the manager of the TUR Ostrava festival.
The 7th year of the cine-meeting concerning ecological issues is being prepared.

The last week of April is a holiday for all professional and amateurish conservationists.
From the 26 till the 29 of April the 7th
anniversary of the international movie festival called TUR Ostrava 2010 is taking place in Dům kultury města Ostravy (House of culture of Ostrava).
During its existence the festival has become a traditional part of spring cultural events in Ostrava. As the manager of the festival Marcela Mrozková – Heříková explained, TUR is considered a descendant of the former festival Ekofilm which was replaced from Ostrava to Český Krumlov.
“The purpose of our festival is to continue the tradition of Ekofilm festival. We upgraded the environmental issue with other aspects of sustainable development – for example with human relations or recently closely watched economical phenomenons and their impact on our lives.” says Heříková.
While majority of people are interested in commercial success only, it is important to realize that that there are many people who want our planet to become healthy and safe place to live.
“This is also another purpose of our festival – we do not show well dressed celebrities with perfect make-up, but we want to show disastrous living conditions of people living in the third world, fates of animals and nature locations drained by insatiable industry. Festival concern issues which must be solved by mankind. Still we have got only one planet to live and to be frank; we are not good keepers of the earth.”
The Scope of the festival is apparent in subject matters of particular festival days; Green planet, Media and ecology, Lifestyle and health or Man and society. Visitors of the festival will see many interesting documentaries filmed by Czech and foreign authors.
“We have got movies from all countries worldwide. This year we will present movies from Belgium, Germany, France, USA, Finland or even from Senegal.” specified press agent Michaela Bartošová.
In addition, there are also additional festivities within which we would like to accent Ostrava as international town – the home of many foreigners where cultures blend together. That was reason why we have established cooperation with Brett Grey, the headmaster of 1st International school of Ostrava. His students will educate us about culture of their native countries.
This year also brings an innovation: one of the two halls in the house of culture will be dedicated to projection of English-language movies. This gives students an opportunity to improve their language abilities and discuss movies with invited professionals.
TUR Ostrava 2010 is held by Fabex Media Company in conjunction with Corporate Town of
Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian region and with AOPK (Protection of nature and countryside agency).
              Entrance is free of charge.
