“As far as concerns the environment, I believe that we do not want to cut off the branch, we are sitting on,” says the foreman of the TUR Film festival Zdeněk Filip. The last week of April 2010 is dedicated to the TUR Film Ostrava festival concerning the environmental issues. The international jury will choose the best movies out of more than forty registered ones. The most impressive films will be awarded with festival statuettes. The foreman of the jury has had for many years the main say in the movie selection. His name is Zdenek Karel Filip – qualified, worldwide reputable environmentalist who lives in Germany. We asked him several questions.

The festival is not only about films but is accompanied with many gabfests, seminars, cultural platforms and interesting social meetings. Each day of festival is planned according to a certain theme:
The first day: Lifestyles and health
The second day: Media and the environment
The third day: A green planet
The fourth day: People and society
The films and workshops chosen will be related to these themes.
The aim of this festival is to warn people about the dilemmas surrounding environmental and social problems, with emphasis on respect for ecological, social and cultural aspects, which are all interconnected with the issue of the sustainable development of society and the environment.
The festival attempts to contribute to the awareness of the value natural resources have for the lives of us all, and the need for its protection.
